FABULOUS SWIFT 8.5X44 AUDUBON

"A poor man's Swarovski EL", "A specialist binocular for bird watchers", "Superior performance and dependability"... so many superlatives and such a low price. I bought mine for 160 euros second hand, mint condition, talking about the fourth reincarnation, model 820, non ED glass.

So, where are the weaknesses? Most criticisms have its big, uncomfortable and collapsible eyecups. The truth is, they're not a mechanical masterpiece, but mine work fine. They have some kind of mechanical fix in the form of seals under eyecups. Thus they stand sturdy in any position you want. Foldable winged eyecups can be added to prevent light leaking. And yes, there is a CA if you're looking for it. As in almost all binoculars at any price.

But this instrument is designed for bird watching and it is very good at that. Its colors are better than predecessor's - very neutral and rich, is waterproof, center sharpness can be compared to the best, and finally the very wide, bright field of view and "3D effect" are its strongest points. I almost forgot, 8.5 magnification counts! If you are tight on budget, there is no need for ED version, let alone Swarovski EL.

Hard to beat at this price range!

Second opinion: Allbinos, Better View Desired
